On Sunday after conference we went up to the Salt Lake City cemetery for our Family Home Evening with the whole family. A bit of a scavenger hunt if you will. We hunted for all the headstones of the prophets that are buried there. I had no idea how large the cemetery was. We definitely got our exercise in for the WEEK! They are scattered all over. I think they should have made a prophets row and it would have been more simple, but not as fun! It was interesting to see what people would leave on the headstones. Letters tattered by the weather, flowers, we even found a CTR ring. There were simple rocks someone had painted with the words HOPE, FAITH and LOVE on them. The girls thought it was fun to see what the next rock would say from one headstone to the next.
Only 11 of the prophets are buried in this cemetery. President Ezra Taft Benson is buried in Idaho, President Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, President Brigham Young is across from the church office building and President Lorenzo Snow is buried in Brigham city.
I was amazed at how some of the headstones were enormous and some just a simple reminder.
Not just our prophets but every ones! There are some huge makers in this cemetery and some very old an crumbling ones. The cemetery could use some work, the ground was so uneven we wondered if there were gophers or something burrowing underneath since there were holes all over that they had thrown some dirt in to fill up. I was afraid someone was going to fall and break an ankle.
While we were standing at Pres. Hinckley's grave all of a sudden Cole starts flailing his arms. He had got stung in the arm pit. It was crazy one of my nephews got stung in the head also. After we went back to my mom's and had dessert. YUMMY! I love spending time with my family!
